Property Assessments

Happy New Year to you all. I hope you were able to have a relaxing and enjoyable holiday break with friends and family.

With the New Year comes property assessments. On January 14, 2023, The City of Edmonton will be mailing out property assessments to homeowners in our city.  This is the first step in the process that will impact your property tax assessment which is mailed out on May 24th.

How do property assessments work?

The process begins in July of the previous year. Every year, the City's property assessors capture the market conditions of Edmonton’s real estate market. Then, they review and analyze the data received throughout the year from different sources to establish the most probable value your property would have sold for on the open market.

What do I do after I receive my assessment?

When you get your assessment in the mail there is an assessment period, during this period you can compare the assessment of your home to others in your area, look at the year to year changes in the assessed value and determine if you are comfortable with the assessed value. This period runs from January 14th to March 23rd, 2023. March 23rd is the deadline for filing formal property assessment complaints.

What if I have questions or concerns about my assessment?
